Since the mid 80s Chile has exhibited sustained economic growth. The annual rate of growth reached to 5.7% in the 1987-2008 period, which is the combination of a first a sub-period of rapid growth (7.8% during 1987-1997) and another of intermediate growth after the asian crisis (3.7% in 1998-2007).
