About us

The Poverty Reduction, MDG and Human Development Area is part of The Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean (RBLAC) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This Area has as main objectives the following:

  • To be a world-class knowledge support in the area of economics for regional strategy and Country Offices (COs);
  • To establish a conceptual perspective on policy priorities for the Region and become a useful and visible reference on such issues;
  • To facilitate the transmission of best-practices in order to solve specific policy questions asked by the RBLAC Directorate and COs;
  • To set up dissemination schemes for public policy-relevant research, in ways that are accessible and timely for the RBLAC and CO's operational concerns.

The general objectives mentioned above will be pursued through specific projects and actions like the ones that are being carried out at this moment.

The Unit for Economic Analysis and Public Policy in LAC is a project from the Poverty Reduction, MDGs and Human Development Area. This Area has a wide range of instruments to achieve its goals, ranging from specific reports to RBLAC Policy Research Working Papers, discussion meetings, concept papers, and specific support activities for the Directorate. In order to be able to coordinate and produce high quality products, the Area is in need of a small, efficient team called "Unit for Economic Analysis and Public Policy" in LAC. This support team is based in Mexico City.
